Partnership for 21st Century Skills

I checked out the website http://www.p21.org ( Partnership for 21st Century Skills and found a very friendly/colorful site. It is user friendly and chock-full of great information. The site is a partnership for teaching skills to children that are very needed. There is a holistic view of 21st Century teaching and learning.

P21 demands innovation while fusing the 3R's and 4C's (critical thinking & problem solving, communication, collaboration, and creativity & innovation). As educators we need to be on the forefront of technology and finding the best ways to integrate old teaching with new ways.

P21 advocate for local, state, and federal funding. This is great, as many partnerships are not as willing to push for funds from as many governments at the same time. That is a lot of lobbying.

On the website I was not happy to see my state not listed as one with their initiatives. New York State is on the forefront of Common Core and implementing new technological ways of teaching. Besides that I was pretty open to the thoughts and views. Everything needs to be encompassed is we are going to be successful.

  1. Hi Shelby,
It's so great to have been given the 'Partnership for 21st century skills' link for us to explore because I probably would not have spotted it on my own. You are right that everything in the site is to be used, in order for educators to be successful in preparing students for the 21st century workplace. The whole idea of the preparation boils down to the 3R's and 4C's. There is the need for the educator to teach the students so that they can master the skills needed for the future.

    Thank you for this post.

  2. Shelby,

Be sure to check out the Common Core Tool Kit located on the teacher tools portion of the website. I think the tool kit will be an excellent resource as we begin to embrace the Common Core Standards. I especially found the lesson vignettes that demonstrate “what it looks like” to align instructional practices with both the common core and P21 skills helpful.

  3. Hi Shelby...

I enjoyed your detailed comments about 21st century skills. I also loved the numerous connections the organization had with other well known and influential organizations. It is impressive to see the political actions and access achieved. Like you, I was sad not to see my state... California, on their list, but good old CA has gone it's own way for a while and continues to be resistant regarding anything that might go national. There are many of us who still hold a candle.

    Great post... Thanx.

    Hope

  4. Shelby, I enjoyed your posting. I am glad you found the website of interest. I find that when used appropriately, technology can be a helpful tool in moving students toward 21st century skill development--through authentic, contextualized activities, students learn to think creatively at the higher levels and develop the problem solving experience they need for self-directed, lifelong learning--something expected in the workplace of today.

Thank you for sharing on your blog.
